Johnny was a drummer boy in the Civil War before he went home to Kentucky and built himself a home by a crystalline spring. That spring helped him turn excess corn into a profitable product and, in time, a damn fine bourbon. According to legend, when the Civil War ended, Johnny returned home to his native Kentucky and soon realized the importance of finding a way to convert his surplus corn. The story goes that Johnny was brilliant at the job and was quick to produce an outstanding bourbon. Initially, Thompson Willett developed a Johnny Drum Bourbon, exclusively for a wholesaler in California. It was a huge success, which allowed the distillery to expand the sale of the product for other amateur purposes.
